generally the centrifugal pumps are electrically active and a simple switch on would serve the purpose. if the cavitation is present in the pump ( I.E THE PRESENCE OF AIR BUBBLES OR VACCUM IN THE CASING), then the priming operation have to be performed.

pump means normally centrifugal pump. before starting the pump, priming should do, filling of suction pipe, pump casing and delivery pipe up-to the priming valve. suction valve fully open and delivery valve should be min 10% open to avoid damage of seal and one thing to remember at any cost should not start the pump with delivery valve fully opened, it will put a very high load on motor during starting.

For almost pump firstly
Filling the casing of pump,
Open the vent air,
Close the gate valve of discharge line
Run the pump and see the ampere min (1.7 power)
See the suction gauge if the sound of pump changed this indicate the pump star suction
Open the valve of discharge line slowly and see the ampere (increase open valve mean increase ampere after that make sure all valves opened.

Procedure to operate a pump as fallows:-
1)Check the alignment of pump & motor coupling & all foundation bolts.
2)Fill the suction pipe with water & open vent of pump.
3)Close discharge valve of pump.
4)If pump is oil lubricated check the oil level or greasing of bearing.
5)Rotate coupling with hand to check pump is rotate free.
6)Supply on start pump & taken no load current & then slowly open the discharge valve to taken it on load.
7)Take a load current when all parameters are normal means pump operate in healthy condition.

First we have to do priming and have to start the pump
priming is basically filling suction pipe with full of water.
off course we have to check is there any air leak in suction pipes

first alignment , coupling installation and bolt tightening suction line check no water leakage. check flange seal. bolt tightening and priming water for the pump. open vent to release air from system open discharge valve 10 % and if there is circulation open flow control valve 30%. then check oil lubricant and greasing & water cooling for motor and check electrical motor

To operate the pump on the switch and then open any valve related to that pump otherwise the pump will have chance to damage.

Procedure to operate a pump open inlet valve but for outlet valve (open or close) changes due to pump type. If it is a centrifugal pump then close outlet valve and after run then open it slowly. If it is a displacement pump open outlet valve before run the pump.
